Testimonials

I can’t say enough about this
I can’t say enough about this place – the food was absolutely amazing and the wine list was great too. X
– my 10 year old day the breaded chicken is the best he’s ever eaten
– my husband says the steak was the best he’s had in a long time
– and I had the lasagne which was the best I’ve had

Faultless
Absolutely brilliant. Black pudding and Paella were incredible. Service was perfect and considerate, always checking in and my two daughters were well catered for. Only issue was we couldn’t book again the following night as it was all booked up. Can’t recommend this place enough. Food is 5* and would give it 6 if I could.

Superb food, service and atmosphere
We arrived in Berwick-upon-Tweed on Saturday 1st August and were staying 3 nights in a premier inn and because we had a restricted menu we thought we would go out to eat and I popped in on the off chance but unfortunately they were full up but I managed to get in on the next evening .
The staff were so friendly and the covid 19 measures were good
The food was superb I had fillet steak and it was cooked perfectly and to be honest I
think it was the best I ever had and my wife had scallops for starter and half lobster
for main-and she is a chef and Was very impressed with food and service.
It’s not cheap but it is certainly worth it for the all round quality

A gem of a find!
Just as we were losing hope of ever finding an available table anywhere, amidst these strange times that we’re living in at present, the kind landlord of this establishment squeezed us in with a table for two. We recieved such a warm welcome and had such a fabulous meal (the Salmon fillet with Summer vegetable risotto was delicious) that with fingers crossed we asked to book in for the following evening. We were lucky! And we returned the next evening. Once again, a lovely warm welcome greeted us. Such lovely people. Another fabulous meal followed. We loved this place so much, we will look into booking B&B here, when we next return to the area.

Good Covid compliance and nice food.
On a weeks holiday in Northumberland we booked the Sunday night based on TA reviews. We were not disappointed, and came again on the Thursday evening.

First, and sadly most important in these difficult times, Covid-19 safety.
Hand sanitiser on way in. All staff wear masks. Good social distancing of tables. Menus are sanitised between guests – on the second visit we were sat near where this was done, and can confirm it was done without fail.
If you are nervous about making that first step out to a restaurant after lockdown, then here would be a good place to start.

So to the food. The reason for going out.
Decent selection of both starters and main course. It’s not cheap, but you get what you pay for. On both occasions portions were adequate without over-facing, and very tasty. Service was well paced. Not rushed, and not left waiting too long.
Reasonable wine selection by the glass, important for us as we have different tastes.

If we are ever in the area again we will certainly repeat.

A Memorable Meal
We ate on a Friday evening following a recommendation from our B&B. Staff were very welcoming and all the food was delicious and freshly cooked. All done under “social distancing” in an efficient way without being intrusive.

Excellent
Lovely meal, service brilliant, considering the circumstances.if you are near it’s a must for a visit.
Very extensive menu, reasonable prices. TripAdvisor say must do 200 why? The first two lines sum it up
Highly recommend.

Great quality food in these challenging times
Firstly, this was our first restaurant meal since “lockdown”. Thought the restaurant handled this very well and reassures the customer.
Now to the food and service. We had a party of three so had a reasonable selection from the menu. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food. Food was served hot and the presentation was great. I had black pudding and apple croquettes as a starter. Superb. I had fish and chips and this was great and I closed with sticky toffee pudding, which again was superb.
Service was attentive without being OTT.
We thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent Lunch
Of all the places to eat in Berwick upon Tweed we were so glad we came here, food was excellent.
I had the pork belly and can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever eaten. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her paella.
Service was spot on too.

Quirky little hotel
My wife and myself decided to stop for lunch at the Queens head Hotel in Berwick upon Tweed, on arrival we were met by a very relaxed atmosphere and the hotel proprietor Garry who led us into the bar while we mulled over the menu, on deciding what we wanted we were shown to our table, hand sanitiser, safe distance etc which we all know is the new norm, we settled for a couple of starters both of us opting for the scallops in lemon and garlic butter, which tasted amazing, then we both opted for fish and chips from an extensive menu… Wow! Freshly caught local fish beautiful white flakes in a very light crispy batter, hand cut chips homemade tartar sauce probably the best I have experienced and mushy peas, again superb. We just could not fault it in any way, and what made things even better when asking for the bill we were told Boris was paying half☺️perfect, thank you Queens head, we will definitely be back.

Dog friendly, great food!
The place is very dog friendly and the food is lovely, although a little on the expensive side. Staff were really chatty and pleasant, would highly recommend. Recommend to book as they do fill up quickly

Great little hotel
My family and I stayed here for 1 night. A great little hotel we had dinner on the night we stayed and the food was amazing. Breakfast the following morning was gorgeous and set out very nicely. The team are all lovely and the hotel has all the necessary measures in place. Our room was very big and had tea and coffee in the room. We didnt need an alarm clock as the seagulls did a great job of walking us up!!! We would stay again

A nice meal here taking advantage of the lunch time specials. Good soup served with homemade soda bread and venison burgers to follow. Chips were beautiful really crunchy. We tried to get a table later on in the week but alas it was not to be.

Would love to return
Unplanned visit, waitress was delightful and managed to fit us in. Two of us had the chowder which was delicious, venison burgers were very tasty with crunchy chips. Fish and chips was lovely, high praise indeed from my son! Staff couldn’t have been more helpful, iced water on the table was a nice touch.

You won’t be disappointed, Great food
We’ve not had chance to go out much due to Covid, But this was by far worth coming out for and made to feel very safe when entering, All Covid measures followed to make you feel safe unlike some other restaurants in the town, My wife had the Salmon starter and I had the Haggis, Followed by a beautifully cooked steak and Hallibut all cooked to perfection, The service was spot on very attentive making sure we were happy with our meal, From working in the hospitality trade myself I can tell the Queens Head is spot on with everything they do, Thank you for a very enjoyable meal in comfortable sorroundings we will be back

Gastro delight
If you are looking for somewhere to go for great food and excellent service, stop looking and book a table at the Queens Head. We visited on a Thursday night and glad we booked as they were turning people away, testimony of the well deserved popularity. I opted for smoked haddock chowder starter and my wife had the haggis and mango pasta. My starter was 10 out of 10 delicious, but wife’s was 11 out of 10, simply stunning. We both had beer battered haddock served with hand cut chips ( so few places do really good hand cut chips, this place does), homemade tartar sauce, peas and delicious creamy slaw. My only complaint was that I was too full to indulge in the sticky toffee pudding which looked amazing. Keep up the good work

Excellent service and food
Welcoming, superb food, very nice to our doggie, very thorough COVID precautions. Cannot recommend highly enoug

Excellent dinner
We stayed here last Friday and had dinner at the restaurant. The food was really delicious. I’ve never had haggis and mango pastie before so wanted to try it. it was just lovely, as was the haddock, served with fresh vegetables and delicious new potatoes. The service is good too, if you like to eat proper food and want to avoid the ‘bar’ food of many hotel restaurants, this is the place to come. A credit to Gary, the owner, who seems to take a personal interest in both the guests and the food.

Lovely presented food
We had a meal here a couple of times. The food is served lovely – try the Paella, it’s delicious and if you have enough room the sticky toffee pudding is very good. The staff were friendly and attentive and didn’t rush you at all. The only negative thing is when you go to the loo it’s like stepping back in time, they need upgrading. It’s a busy place so book in advance.

trip advisor September -

Good food and wine
I advise booking to avoid disappointment. Phone was answered promptly. We walked but on street parking is available. You need a parking disc. Covid security is in place which is reassuring.
The menu was compressive, despite these difficult times.
There was quiet background music and we played “name that tune”
I had a haggis past to start, wife had fish cakes. Both good.
My highlight was the paella main course, after which I only managed one scoop of caramel ice cream for pud.
Overall, an excellent and relaxing meal.
Thank you.

Lovely evening meal in Berwick
We had a delightful evening meal at the Queen’s Head. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the menu offered a variety of tempting dishes and the ones we selected were delicious – perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I look forward to eating there again if I’m ever in the area.
