Gastro delight
If you are looking for somewhere to go for great food and excellent service, stop looking and book a table at the Queens Head. We visited on a Thursday night and glad we booked as they were turning people away, testimony of the well deserved popularity. I opted for smoked haddock chowder starter and my wife had the haggis and mango pasta. My starter was 10 out of 10 delicious, but wife’s was 11 out of 10, simply stunning. We both had beer battered haddock served with hand cut chips ( so few places do really good hand cut chips, this place does), homemade tartar sauce, peas and delicious creamy slaw. My only complaint was that I was too full to indulge in the sticky toffee pudding which looked amazing. Keep up the good work

Lucky find
Looking for a last minute table for dinner, came across this hotel. the staff were welcoming, the food was great and the price was reasonable for the quality. Lovely relaxed atmosphere that got the covid-19 balance right. We had a great evening

Excellent dinner
We stayed here last Friday and had dinner at the restaurant. The food was really delicious. I’ve never had haggis and mango pastie before so wanted to try it. it was just lovely, as was the haddock, served with fresh vegetables and delicious new potatoes. The service is good too, if you like to eat proper food and want to avoid the ‘bar’ food of many hotel restaurants, this is the place to come. A credit to Gary, the owner, who seems to take a personal interest in both the guests and the food.

Lovely Hotel
We’ve just returned from a very enjoyable couple of nights stay at the Queen’s Head. This is a small hotel and restaurant. Our room was very comfortable and had a really good shower! Covid arrangements were fine as far as I was concerned, safe without being over the top.

We ate in the restaurant both nights, and the food was very good. The breakfasts were lovely too – I recommend the kippers!

Lovely presented food
We had a meal here a couple of times. The food is served lovely – try the Paella, it’s delicious and if you have enough room the sticky toffee pudding is very good. The staff were friendly and attentive and didn’t rush you at all. The only negative thing is when you go to the loo it’s like stepping back in time, they need upgrading. It’s a busy place so book in advance.

Good food and wine
I advise booking to avoid disappointment. Phone was answered promptly. We walked but on street parking is available. You need a parking disc. Covid security is in place which is reassuring.
The menu was compressive, despite these difficult times.
There was quiet background music and we played “name that tune”
I had a haggis past to start, wife had fish cakes. Both good.
My highlight was the paella main course, after which I only managed one scoop of caramel ice cream for pud.
Overall, an excellent and relaxing meal.
Thank you.

Lovely evening meal in Berwick
We had a delightful evening meal at the Queen’s Head. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the menu offered a variety of tempting dishes and the ones we selected were delicious – perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I look forward to eating there again if I’m ever in the area.

Intriguing Menu and Dog-Friendly
We were staying in Alnwick with our dog, and were looking for something more than just good pub food so decided to make the journey up the A1. We were made to feel very welcome and Freya (Labrador) was given two biscuits.

The menu was rather intriguing with a variety of culinary influences including both pheasant and fruit curry and Spanish-style pork belly. Both of which were delicious. Clearly a popular restaurant, several ‘walk-ins’ had to be turned away so booking strongly recommended.

Quality at Queens
We visited this restaurant on three consecutive evenings. Booking is essential. We both loved the ambience, the amazing service from Heather, Garry and Katrin and the outstanding food. We enjoyed all the food we tried from the fillet steak, scallops, haddock and chips, paella and Spanish belly pork. Social distancing and hygiene rules were in place and we felt safe. There was a good wine selection too. We definitely recommend this place.

Excellent food & service!
Our first visit to Northumberland and looking for a restaurant, we were fortunate to spot this one on TripAdvisor! A really popular place, we were unable to get in the first night we tried, so would recommend booking in advance. Covid measures in place, staff wearing masks and customers required to wear them whilst entering and moving around. Well distanced tables, sanitisers, track and trace details taken, and EXCELLENT FOOD!! Gary & the team are doing an exceptional job under difficult circumstances, because of the coronavirus pandemic. We enjoyed it at the Queens Head enough to book for a second evening and again, it didn’t disappoint! Friendly and professional whilst still maintaining the personal touch, we hope to return when we next visit the area!

Treat of the week.
Managed to book a table for second night of our stay in BoT. The service was faultless, the food fabulous. The fish&chips were super, with “brilliant” proper sized chips, from a man who usually prefers skinny chips. I enjoyed the sumptuous Spanish pork belly, managed to leave room for the semifreddo pud (yummy). I would add my recommendation to those already noted. Covid regulations adhered to without detracting from the excellent service.

V accommodating and delicious food. NCN route1 compatible.
My favourite place that we stayed on our cycle holiday between Newcastle and Edinburgh. V accommodating, nice room and delicious food (good menu choice too too) and the staff make you feel v welcome. Definately recommend.

The hotel and restaurant looked lovely from the outside so we called in for a meal on the offchance, and it didnt disappoint!
The atmosphere was warm, cosy and welcoming and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Everywhere was clean and felt very safe during this awful Covid 19 situation, plenty if distance between tables. The menu offered a great selection with really interesting options if you are vegetarian or vegan. My husband and I both chose vegetarian options which were really delicious, and we both had the apple sponge were which was yummy! Prices reflected the excellent quality of the food and wine served, so very good value for money. Would highly recommend.

Personal not Corporate
Well situated for exploring Northumberland. Lovely personal touches and fabulous staff, especially Kat who even recommended to us German literature. Good food in the popular restaurant and enjoyable breakfast with Garry’s poached eggs being perfect. Spotless and all Covid-19 disciplines rigorously observed. Free car park close by and free parking at weekends directly outside the hotel for those requiring a blue badge. Accessible and powerful shower rather than a weak dripping object perched above a bath. Fluffy towels, complimentary toiletries and even sweeties, water and fruit showing careful attention to detail. Bathroom sensibly Includes a proper mirrored cabinet and not just a shelf. Very generous sized bedroom with two armchairs, comfortable beds and it was quiet, even though we were at the front of the building. One tiny suggestion, if we may. The bedroom requires a fridge and there is plenty of space for one. Maybe the fridge was removed for Covid related reasons? We thoroughly enjoyed our three day stay and can wholeheartedly recommend the Queen’s Head in Berwick.

Fantastic food. Refined yet wholesome.
Eaten twice here now. Fantastic. Really tasty food cooked well. Will be a regular whenever I’m in Berwick upon Tweed

Perfect
Visiting Berwick-Upon Tweed for a couple of nights and stumbled on this little gem of a restaurant. Just good old fashioned service with a huge dollop if home cooking. Home made chowder, seared scallops and freshly caught local fish. Thanks

Beautiful place for a relaxing break
We spent a few days here a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed Berwick-Upon-Tweed and this beautiful little hotel. Lovely rooms, great food (must try dinner at the hotel) and exceptionally helpful owners. Ours was a relaxing time, walking around the seafront and town, trying the boat trips (saw seals and dolphins), but there’s also lots of options for a more adventurous break. Would happily return and easily recommend.

Not to be missed
Booked this after walking past and seeing the menu. A couple of local people then recommended it and we were not disappointed. Very nice restaurant and good choice of food and wine. Service was fantastic, welcoming and attentive. It all made for a lovely evening and I strongly recommend if in Berwick-upon-Tweed put this restaurant on your “must eat at” list.

Excellent food and even better service!
We visited the restaurant on a wet Sunday night whilst on holiday in Berwick Upon Tweed, after being turned away from 3-4 other local places that were full or closing. It turns out this was an excellent decision as the food and overall experience was fantastic. The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious – myself and my wife had fish and chips and the kids had chicken/sausage with chips which they loved.
When we got back to the hotel, we discovered that my 7 year old daughter had lost her favourite bunny soft toy (Mr Bobby) and was absolutely distraught. We searched everywhere and retraced our steps to no avail. Although we had not left Mr Bobby in the Queens Head they offered to post a picture on Facebook to help find him. They called the next day to say they had found him and my daughter/Mr Bobby were reunited.
We cannot thank the Queens Head enough for giving us a great night and going above and beyond to help us out. Thank you again!!!

Quality throughout
Dined here on two occasions while staying at the hotel. Really impressed. Obviously a good standard of ingredients and some interesting ideas. Every dish we had through three courses was pleasing – the menu is online but there are specials that are frustratingly attractive. Clearly a thoughtful and skilled chef. Also some well considered wines. Yet the prices are very reasonable throughout. The service is good and the attention to Covid safety is very reassuring. I wish I had a restaurant so good and so reasonable nearer to me at home.

Great little hotel
Stayed two nights here but wish we’d booked or longer. An old grade 2 listed family run hotel. Owner and manager Gary described at ‘unpretentious’, and sure it’s not smart or ultra modern, but it is very comfortable. As we arrived, passing the grander looking Kings Hotel I thought I’d made a mistake. But no. Our spacious room was very comfortable and well provided with drinks and snacks, and a spacious modern en suite with good quality towels. The corridor to it reflected the old nature of the building. The location is perfect, just beside the town walls.
Breakfasts were terrific and of very good quality – really far better than the other more upmarket hotels that were part of our trip.
Covid precautions were thorough.
Gary is supported by an excellent team in the personable and welcoming Kat and Heather, and their unnamed chef.
I have no hesitation in recommending.
